ABOUT ROELENE PRINSLOO PHOTOGRAPHY
Roelene Prinsloo is an award winning freelance photographer based in Johannesburg. She completed her studies in photography at SIPS (Stellenbosch Institute of Photography) in 1998 where she received the top student award. Her career commenced in 1999, developing and printing photos at the well-known Special Lab in Cape Town. Shortly after an Italian company employed her as in-house photographer specializing in décor photography.
Roelene started freelancing in 2000 and after moving to Johannesburg in 2001 enrolled into the position of in-house photographer at Caxton Newspapers, where she was soon promoted to the magazine division. In 2005 she served a short stint in Dubai mainly focusing on food photography for billboards and other print material but moved back to Johannesburg at the end of that year. There she continued her freelance photography career. Roelene has produced work for numerous commercial clients (national and international), magazines and cookbooks.
In 2010 she was awarded Caxton Magazines photographer of the year, also receiving a merit award. In 2011 she received a merit for image of the year, and in 2013 won Caxton Magazines photographer of the year once again. In 2014 she received 2nd place for image of the year. One of Roelene’s photographs reached the list of finals for the International Food Photography competition ‘Pink Lady Food Photographer of the year’. She was awarded 1st as well as 3rd place in the Pink Lady Food Photography SA competition in 2021. Roelene covers all fields of photography but especially loves food, décor, travel and lifestyle.
